Single or one off inventory management cases

Single inventory event decisions are cases where there is only one opportunity or event where the inventory or goods/services can be sold, after this event the inventory is either obsolete or is no longer available to be consumed. This represents a capacity and inventory management decision challenge as it is very difficult to accurately predict the level of required stock/inventory and over capacity or over stock will be worth nothing once the event has passed.
Some instances that are single event inventory cases are:

-Concerts and sporting events (These have fixed capacities and seat inventories)

-Airline flights

-Special dinners and lunches

-Seminars

-Accommodation

-Car rental

-One off production run of clothing and accessories

-Major fashion items

-Limited edition items

These items and services are a few among the single inventory cases, although some of these items could prove so popular that it may be possible for them to become a regular sales item or service and for the inventory controller transform into a multiple period inventory decision.
